TRUCKER’S PRAYER GUIDE
By Rev. Joseph H. Hunter
In Matthew 6:9, Jesus gave his disciples a guide on how to pray. What we call “The Lord’s Prayer” is actually an outline on how to pray. Hopefully this will help you develop or expand your prayer life.
I. OUR FATHER, WHICH ART (who is) IN HEAVEN, HALLOWED (kept holy) BE THY NAME.
A. ALWAYS START YOUR PRAYER TIME WITH PRAISE! Your prayer time shouldn’tbe a want list to a “sugar daddy” in Heaven! It should be a time of fellowship; acasual conversation with your loving Heavenly Father.
B. Picture Calvary and begin to praise God. You can call Him “Abba, Father.”
C. Praise the names of God corresponding with the benefits in the New Covenant thatare provided through the blood of Jesus:

II. THY KINGDOM COME, THY WILL BE DONE
A. First, pray this for YOURSELF, because if you aren’t in a right relationship withGod, you can’t lead others!
B. Then your FAMILY. (Begin with your mate, then your children, then other familymembers.)
C. Then your CHURCH (Pastor, leadership, faithfulness of the people).
D. Then your NATION (city, county, state and national political and spiritual leaders).
E. Any time you aren’t sure how to pray in any given situation, pray “Thy kingdomcome, thy will be done.”
III. GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD
A. BE SURE YOU ARE IN THE WILL OF GOD. (your prayer life, church life, workhabits, obedience in giving)
B. KNOW THAT IT IS GOD’S WILL TO PROSPER YOU (3 John 2), but that is only sothat you can be a blessing to others. Also, you MUST plant in order to reap (Galatians 6:7-8).
C. BE SPECIFIC. Learn to pray in specifics. Ask God for exactly what you desire (Psalm 37:4). Always remember that your first thought should be His will being done (Matthew 6:33).
D. BE TENACIOUS. Matthew 7:7-8 says, “Ask and you shall receive; seek and you shallfind; knock and it shall be opened to you.” Be like a little child, close to Christmas --they won’t let you forget, and they are VERY specific as to what they want. We shouldbe the same when talking to our Father.
IV. FORGIVE US OUR DEBTS AS WE FORGIVE OUR DEBTORS
A. ASK GOD TO FORGIVE YOU. Notice that Matthew 6:12 says: “forgive us our debts (orsins) as we forgive our debtors.”
B. FORGIVE AND RELASE OTHERS. Forgiving others may be hard, but it sure does bringrelief later!
C. SET YOUR WILL TO FORGIVE THOSE WHO HAVE SINNED AGAINST YOU. The hardestthing I ever do is ask for forgiveness when I haven’t done anything wrong, but this actbrings a cleansing to me that cannot be explained.
V. AND LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION, BUT DELIVER US FROM EVIL.
PUT ON THE FULL ARMOR OF GOD (put on the Lord Jesus Christ.) Ephesians 6:13-17
A. Buckle the belt of TRUTH around your waist.
B. Put on the breastplate of RIGHTEOUSNESS.
C. Have your feet fitted with the readiness of the gospel of PEACE.
D. Take up the shield of FAITH.
E. Put on the helmet of SALVATION.
F. Take the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.
IV. FOR THINE IS THE KINGDOM AND THE POWER AND THE GLORY FOREVER!
A. Make your faith declarations; begin to receive, by faith, the things you have asked Godfor. Stand on His infallible Word, the Bible, and know that “all things work together forgood to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose.”(Romans 8:28)
B. Return to praising God! Keep praising God all through the day, no matter what thingsmay look like, no matter how you feel.
